The Borough operates the public water system.
Water rates are charged according to a metered rate and are
billed monthly. Individual property owners are responsible for
service connections from the water main to individual homes.
For those customers having remote meters, the Water Authority
conducts an annual meter check. The Water Authority Rules and
Regulations specifiy that "the Authority and/or Borough
, at all reasonable times shall have access to meters, service
connections and other property owned by it on customers' premises,
for the purpose of maintenance, operation and meter reading.
The failure to permit reasonable access shall be sufficient
cause for discontinuance of service." All questions concerning
water matters should be directed to the Borough Manager. Bills
may be paid at the Borough office.
WATER CONSERVATION TIPS
CHECK FOR LEAKS YOU CAN’T SEE. The toilet
is the biggest thief of water. The first test is the dye Pac
Test. You simply put dye in the toilet tank, if it appears in
the bowl without flushing, check to see if the water is leaking
around the flapper valve at the bottom of the tank. Check the
water level in the tank and make sure it is not too high and
running over into the overflow tube. When the house is silent
at night, you may hear water running in the toilet. This also
is an indication of water leaking in the toilet. If any of these
situations apply, have your toilets serviced immediately.
GIVE YOUR ENTIRE PLUMBING SYSTEM A HEARING TEST.
Turn off your television, radio, etc., make sure everything
is quiet and no water consuming appliances or fixtures are running.
Walk through your kitchen, bath(s), and laundry room and listen
carefully. If there is a leak in any of your plumbing, you will
hear the sound of running water. Also, check the small white
triangle on the face of your inside water meter. If it is spinning
when you are not using water, you have a leak.
NOTICE A DROP IN WATER PRESSURE OR WATER RUNNING
OR POOLING ON A STREET OR IN A YARD. If the water pressure is
abnormally low, check the screens on your faucet and clean them.
If the pressure is still low, call the Water Authority Office
and someone will come and investigate the possibility of a water
line break. Water running in the street or pooling yard, (especially
during dry weather conditions) may be an indication of a water
line break. Please call the Water Authority Office (or 911 after
business hours or on weekends) to report such an occurrence.
CROSS CONNECTION REMINDER
When not in use, garden hoses should be disconnected from spigots
to prevent back-siphonage, particularly in older homes that
do not have backflow prevention devices. It is highly recommended
and required if you are updating your service to install backflow
prevention and vacuum break devices in your plumbing. These
measures are for your own safety.
