DRUG & ALCOHOL AWARENESS
The Homer City Borough Police actively works with the
community and the Homer Center School District to help
educate about the dangers of Drugs and Alcohol. The
department utilizes a drug identification kit that identifies
the drug as well as the paraphernalia most likely used.
The officer then explains the legal ramifications that
are associated with illegal drug use and also how drust
effect the human body. We also educate on the laws concerning
under age drinking, drinking and driving, and is direct
affect on the community.
FATAL VISION EDUCATION
By the time a driver reaches a blood alcohol level
of 0.10% he or she is 12 times more likely than a non-drinking
driver to be involved in a fatal crash. The principle
underlying the Fatal Vision Program is to demonstrate
how quickly an impaired driver can turn fun into devastating
consequences. When people directly experience impairment
while trying to do a task, the lesson sticks. Research
show that those who learn from hands-on experience retain
two to four times more than those who learn from just
listing or listing and seeing. This program has been
invaluable in teaching yound adults the dangers of drinking
and driving and are available to other departments and
agencies in the area. The goggles were aquired through
a generous donation from the Bell Atlantic Pioneers.
